If I close my eyes and let go, I can almost feel the noonday sun on my bare
skin, hear the water singing evening songs at the harbor, smell the
burning wood of bonfires as human laughter graze their crackling embers,
taste the sweet kisses of summer's final days, and see the world again
as a stage set for my own amusement and free-spirited adventures. I
imagine all of them, all of these memories, and send a prayer to
heaven's gates that when I open my eyes, I will be standing in the midst
of their actuality. However, I dare not lift my eyelids for I already
know I am far away from it all. Though this may be the case, the
heart fetches me solace as it lingers for a moment each day in those
places that treated this traveler so kindly.
