Salvation Mountain

During the last semester of my undergraduate studies, I read about an exquisite art installation in the desert outside of Coachella Valley.  Two and a half years later, this painter finally was able to experience Salvation Mountain in all its scintillating glory.  And if there is one thing I took away from standing on and walking around those grounds, it is that the artist worked with unadulterated passion and heart.  He took his gift and used it.  Used it well.  The images say it all.

It is bittersweet to know that I had the opportunity to see the masterpiece, but to see the masterpiece in a condition that only warrants further deterioration without its creator's touch.

Mr. Leonard Knight, may God keep your light shining for as long as possible.
